What shady characters trees are?

We want trees in the landscape for several reasons. One, and perhaps the most important, is shade. We often want to escape the heat and intensity of the sun and the shade of a tree can be the answer! But a true landscape tree can deliver so much more. For instance, an ornamental cherry tree, such as a sherbert, can give pink flowers in the spring, then purple leaves come summer. Fruit trees can also give us flowers in spring, then edible fruit come fall. The Mountain Ash, my favourite, starts with white flowers, looks unique all season long, then long lasting orange like berries in the fall to attract the birds!
